In case you missed it – Florida-based artist Luis Kaiulani was so impressed by our Flossmoor Hills art students, and the well crafted questions they were asking during a presentation of his sculpture Yellow Flat-Line, that he decided to donate the sculpture permanently to the school!
As part of the Village of Flossmoor's public sculpture program, the sculpture was originally installed as a temporary art piece meant to be rotated after three years, but Kaiulani wanted the students at Flossmoor Hills to be able to see his artwork for as long as they attend the school.
Kaiulani was quoted in the Daily Southtown as saying – “I saw myself in them,” Kaiulani said. “I said, ‘wow,’ this is really important to them. Some wanted to be an artist.”
Thank you so much to the Village of Flossmoor's public art program and especially to Luis Kaiulani for the special donation!
