On Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and August 3rd 2025, weather permitting, Flossmoor School District 161 will be applying an herbicide and a fertilizer to the field areas at Serena Hills, Flossmoor Hills, and Parker Junior High. The products that will be used for this application are The Andersons Turf Products Fertilizer with Barricade Herbicide, and Trimec 992 Broadleaf Herbicide. These products comprise a selective broadleaf herbicide and a lawn fertilizer that will be used to control weeds/dandelions in these areas, and will also fertilize all district lawns.

Parker Jr. High softball tryouts will be held July 28th and 29th at 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Mustang Field in Flossmoor Park located off Flossmoor Road. All participants must fill out the permission form and have a copy of current sports physical. Packets containing the permission slip and information are available at Parker Jr High office.

Mekhi McGruder is a dedicated athlete and, as of last night, a proud graduate of Parker Junior High. At 14, he plays wheelchair basketball with the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association’s team and continues to impress with his passion and competitive spirit.
During the final week of school, Mekhi and his teammates led a special assembly, showcasing the fast-paced sport of wheelchair basketball to their fellow 8th graders.
Last night, Mekhi celebrated the end of his junior high journey as he received his certificate of promotion. Next stop: high school!

Kudos to the Parker Junior High Band for their heartfelt performance at this morning’s Memorial Day ceremony in Homewood. Their music provided a fitting tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
