The district's preschool program classes are held at Flossmoor Hills Elementary School, 3721 Beech St., Flossmoor, IL.
Students attend for 2 1/2 hours daily in the A.M. or P.M. sessions. The program is for students that have been identified as at-risk based on results from a developmental screening. District 161 provides free regularly scheduled screenings for district residents whose children are three to five years of age. The screening assesses the following skill areas: speech and language, gross/fine motor, self-help, vision/hearing, and cognition. All screenings are done by appointment.
All registrations and screenings are done by appointment. Please call the office of the Preschool Coordinator, Crystal Briney, at 708-647-7051 or by email at cbriney@sd161.org to set up a registration appointment. Once registration has been completed, your child will be scheduled for a screening appointment. Screenings are held approximately once a month.

Subpart D was added to the Administrative Code at 44 Ill. Reg. 1942 effective January 10, 2020. This applies to exclusionary discipline in early childhood programs that receive Early Childhood Block Grant funding (Section 2-3.7(a)(7) of the School Code). The exclusionary discipline amendment is composed of a Behavior Support Plan, a Program Transition Plan, and annual reporting requirements based on these plans. Behavior Support Plans must be completed to document support that is being provided to address challenging behaviors in the classroom. A Program Transition Plan is to be completed prior to a child being removed from a program as a last resort when the previous steps have not been successful.
